Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde
By Moises Kaufman
April 19th – May 5th, 2012
Produced in partnership with the University of Colorado Boulder’s
Department of Theatre and Dance
In three short months, Oscar Wilde, the most celebrated playwright and wit of Victorian England, was toppled from the apex of British society into humiliation and ruin. Drawing from trial documents, newspaper accounts, and writings of the key players, Moises Kaufman ignites an incendiary mix of sex and censorship, with a cast of characters ranging from George Bernard Shaw to Queen Victoria herself.
"A triumph…truth, purity, and simplicity suffuse [this] thoroughly engrossing new play…sweeps away cobwebs and distortions, allowing complex, credible human beings to emerge from history." —Washington Post
"Stunning…taut, shattering, yet delightfully exuberant…altogether fascinating." —NY Newsday.
Producing Ensemble Director’s Comments: I'll never forget the first time I saw this show in New York. The amazing story of one of the world's greatest writers, that touches not only on issues of sexuality, but also on the very nature of Art and how it defines the culture we live in. We are so excited to be teaming with the Department of Theatre and Dance at CU Boulder on this production in a collaboration that should be hugely valuable to all involved.

Winner of the 2002-2003 Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Adaptation.
This award-winning adaptation of Dostoyevsky's literary masterpiece is set in the mind of the murderer, where he relives and explores the events that drove him to his horrible crime. Crime & Punishment is a thrilling psychological journey which seeks to unveil hidden dimensions of the human condition.
“Stunningly lean, taut and emotionally searing…[like] the swift, sharp impact of a blow from an ax.” —Chicago Sun-Times
Producing Ensemble Director’s Comments: The novel is one of my favorite pieces of literature, in part because I find its piercing look inside the human mind to be so closely related to what we explore in the theatre. This adaptation is a streamlined, one-act version that captures the haunting essence of the play in a fast-moving, three-person format.
