BETC is delighted to present Boulder with a new recipe for Holiday Hilarity!
We start with Sedaris' true story of working as an elf at the Macy's flagship store in New York City. Add returning guest artist and popular local actor Geoffrey Kent. Sprinkle in inherent cynicism, gleeful wickedness, and an elf outfit. Bake at 420°.
You’ll wonder how you survived the holidays before BETC’s The SantaLand Diaries!
"Thanks to Sedaris’ writing and Kent’s interpretation, The SantaLand Diaries decks the halls with peals of laughter. It pokes fun at the frivolities of the holidays, yet honors their true meaning, and it is quite possibly the best Christmas-themed show playing this month."

In BETC's first World Premiere, award-winning local playwright William C. Kovacsik brought us the story of renowned Impressionist painters Berthe Morisot and Edouard Manet. Featuring many of the most beautiful images of the Impressionist movement, MORISOT RECLINING traced their personal and professional relationship, bringing one of the greatest love stories ever put on canvas to vibrant life on stage. Narrated by fellow Impressionists Edgar Degas and Mary Cassatt, MORISOT RECLINING offered a rare glimpse into the art and hearts of four famed painters.
"Inventive in form, confident in execution and expertly performed, 'Morisot Reclining' is an achievement for the Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company." (John Moore, Denver Post)

“BETC’s version of SantaLand reaches out and tickles the Bad Santa that lives in many of us.” – Boulder Daily Camera
Producing Ensemble Director’s Comments: SantaLand is fast becoming a tradition in Boulder. We've literally been turning people away the last two years, so we felt it was only right to give them another shot at it. With Geoffrey Kent returning as our velvet-clad hero, it's sure to be anything but a "Silent Night."

A Regional Premiere!
October 13th – 29th, 2011
In this wickedly funny and riveting thriller, cash and allegiances change hands as two sisters and three collectors battle over a pair of rare stamps that could be worth millions. Mauritius explores the lengths we are willing to go to for fortune... and freedom.
"One wouldn't think that the subject of rare stamps would make for gripping, entertaining theater, but Theresa Rebeck's Mauritius [is] the sort of well-made, engrossing and unpretentious play rarely encountered on Broadway these days." -The Hollywood Reporter
"You can't dismiss the pleasurable kick of watching a woman...take on a slew of Mamet-esque thugs." –New York Times
Producing Ensemble Director’s Comments: We're kicking off Season 6 with a regional premiere from one of America's best writers. Theresa Rebeck has crafted a wonderfully taut drama about stamp collecting, of all things! This story twists and turns like a classic mystery as the five characters jockey for position and a possible fortune. Who knew stamp collecting was a life-and-death proposition?

A maid who hates cleaning dreams about creating the perfect joke. A doctor who treats cancer leaves his heart inside one of his patients. A woman who keeps her house in order realizes her life is a mess. This is a play of uncommon romance and uncommon comedy by "a playwright with a unique comic voice, perspective, and sense of theater" (Variety).
"The Clean House is a treasure of a play. Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company's production is filled with jewels." - 3 1/2 Stars, The Daily Camera

Directed by Bob Buckley
May 1 - 16, 2008
BETC's final show of the 2007-08 season was the side-splitting comedy, THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED). Featuring three of the area's most hilarious Shakespeare clowns, this zany, lightning fast ride through all 37 Shakespeare plays (and a few sonnets to boot!) was a huge hit with BETC audiences. Due to its overwhelming popularity, the show went on to be revived as part of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival's 2009 summer season, where it played to sold-out houses. February 14 – March 8, 2008
Copenhagen invited the audience into a provocative conversation about the moral responsibilities of science and scientists, through a fictionalized account of a historical meeting between Danish physicist Niels Bohr and German physicist Werner Heisenberg. These two eminent scientists had worked very closely together for many years developing the physics that led to the discovery of nuclear fission. However, with Heisenberg having been charged by Hitler to develop the atomic bomb for Germany, these friends and colleagues find their relationship strained to the utmost by issues of morality, patriotism and responsibility. This rare feat of historical drama presented a gripping debate surrounding issues of scientific accountability and the practical exploitation of scientific discovery.
