BETC Staff

Stephen Weitz (Producing Ensemble Director): Stephen is one of the co-founders of BETC. He directed the first BETC production, Jean Anouilh's adaptation of Antigone, as well as Fat Pig and The Sunset Limited. He has performed in the BETC productions Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Copenhagen, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), Morisot Reclining, Doubt, and Shipwrecked. Stephen also works regularly as a freelance artist at many regional theatres. He is a Resident Acting Company member at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival (CSF) where he recently performed the title role in Hamlet . In his six seasons at CSF, Stephen has performed roles such as Bottom in Midsummer, The Fool in King Lear, Khlestakov in The Inspector General, and many others. He is a frequent guest artist at the Denver Center, where he has appeared in productions of Tom Sawyer, King Lear, Richard III, Othello, and Midsummer. He has also worked at other prominent area theatres such as the Arvada Center and TheatreWorks in Colorado Springs. Stephen holds an MFA from the prestigious Acting program at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival as well as an MA in Theatre from CU-Boulder. He is a highly trained Stage Combat professional and works frequently as a freelance choreographer. In his business life, Stephen has served as Director of Sales at mediabistro.com, General Manager at Troika Consulting and Human Resources Manager at Worth Media.

Rebecca Remaly (Managing Director): Rebecca is one of the co-founders of BETC, for which she has directed An Empty Plate in the Café du Grand Boeuf, The Clean House, The SantaLand Diaries, the world premiere of Morisot Reclining (Henry Nomination, Best New Play, 2009), Copenhagen, Savage in Limbo, and Danny and the Deep Blue Sea (Denver Post Ovation Nominee, Best Drama, 2007). BETC acting credits include Sister James in Doubt, Sara in Stop Kiss, Laura in The Glass Menagerie, and Ismene in Antigone. Locally, Rebecca has worked with Curious Theatre Company, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, And Toto Too, and on the East Coast for Manhattan Theatre Club, George Street Playhouse and Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble. Rebecca is a proud graduate of Franklin & Marshall College.

Heather A. Beasley (Director of Strategy and Development): Heather works to generate the structural and financial framework needed to support BETC's creative mission. She holds a doctorate in theatre from CU-Boulder, with certificates in women's studies and the graduate teaching program. Beasley earned her master's degree in theatre with a focus in dramaturgy from Villanova University, and her undergraduate degree in creative writing and theatre from Creighton University. Her articles and reviews have appeared in Theatre Journal, the Journal of Popular Culture, Theatre Studies, and the Journal of Religion and Theatre, of which she is also past general editor. She is a past president of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival Guild, and also of the campus group OnStage, where in 2000 she co-founded the Theatre and Dance department's annual BoulderFringe Festival. In addition to her work for BETC, Heather also works for CU's College of Music as the assistant director of the CU Opera program, and for the Center for Astrophysics and Space Astronomy as a science editor. She has worked with BETC in various capacities over the past four seasons, including grant writing, stage management, and as the director of 2010's Doubt.

Andrew Metzroth (Production Manager): Metz has designed, directed, and coordinated over 75 shows in the Denver-metro area since 2005. Selected BETC credits include Shipwrecked! (Sound/Music) Mauritius (Lights/Sound), An Empty Plate in the Café du Grand Boeuf (Lights/Sound), Doubt (Lights), The Clean House (Sound/Music),Copenhagen (Lights/Set), and many others. Other Colorado credits include Marat/Sade, Grapes of Wrath, The Blind (Sound/Music), and Autobahn, 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, and The Time Machine (Director) at CU-Boulder, Aphrodisiac (Asst. Lighting Design), Lieutenant of Inishmore and Denver Project (Master Electrician) at Curious Theatre Company, three years at CU's New Opera Works festival (Projections), and resident stage manager for Stories on Stage. He holds a BFA in Theatre Technology and Design, a BA in Religious Studies, and an MA in Theatre from CU-Boulder. His master's thesis is the first study of theatrical business practice in the Denver-metro area.
